Makasiini Contemporary is pleased to announce the opening of a new gallery space in Helsinki on September 18, 2025.
Located at the former Train Factory – a fast-developing cultural hub in the Finnish capital – the new venue features three distinct exhibition spaces with a total of 750 m2 (8073 sq ft) and ceiling heights up to 13,5 m (44.3 ft).
The inaugural exhibition opens on September 19th, featuring works by Jorge Galindo, Cindy Phenix, and a selection of the gallery’s artists.
With its new location in Helsinki, Makasiini Contemporary becomes more accessible to an international audience while continuing to support both emerging and established artists. The gallery will present three exhibitions simultaneously and includes a private showroom for viewings by appointment.
Upcoming shows will introduce several new names to the program, including Xavier Baxter, Tony Cragg, Emily Gillbanks, Jack Kabangu, Ur Kasin, Alina Frieske, Jordy Kerwick, and Willy Verginer.
– After eight years in Turku, this move to Helsinki felt like a natural next step. We’ve been looking for the right space for years – and this one immediately felt right. The architecture, the volume, and the natural light make it ideal for ambitious exhibitions, says founder and gallerist Frej Forsblom.
– We’re looking forward to bringing a bold and diverse program to a broader, more international audience.
Makasiini Contemporary will continue operating its original space in Turku as before.
