Self-taught next-generation artist Julius Nordvinter uses his art as a personal tool to understand and dominate his being. Nordvinter refers to himself as a creator, albeit it be naturally changing. Living with OCD, Nordvinter translates his personal experiences to mesmerizing canvases with seemingly excavating every little nuance and detail and turning them into pattern-filled paintings which present powerful conceptual and multi-dimensional worlds.
Nordvinter’s paintings incorporate references to the old art historical canon and reminders of world art such as the iconography of the African tribal art, characterized by lines and symbolic meanings. His reference to the dichotomy of the narrative and the abstract is effective critical revision to the previous approach frequently placing emphasis on a more conventional mode of interpretation and perception. Nordvinter’s self-invented ‘Winterian alphabet’ emerges as a symbolic path, with the artist revealing the key to the owner of his work, thus the spectator together with him evolving and uncovering the language of his art.
Nordvinter has found the techniques he uses by experimenting. The colourism and moving with strong lines might be the base of the work, however, as an artist Nordvinter states a need to experiment and flow. Therefore, the outcome might vary drastically and will not follow any given mode.
Through captivating pieces with such personal significance and instant recognisability, Nordvinter is able to transform the artist’s subjective view into emotional, new and natural, almost raw, interpretations. Nordvinter is shifting the values of the traditional with focusing on the individual development, balancing insight and self-experimentation. The works are immersive and approachable. The reaction to these human feelings is pure.
