William Bradley

Born 1984 | Lives and works in Los Angeles, USA

William Bradley’s work explores contemporary and historical notions of abstraction. Composition is developed through collage and layering, growing in scale and depth into expressive canvases, providing a stage for three-dimensional shapes that allude to painterly brushstroke and sculptural form at once. Whilst formalist in nature, the resultant paintings’ titles and manner of execution allow notions of reference and recollection to provide the viewer with an entry point to the work; the experiential effect of gesture and colour, interplaying with shadows cast, to imbue the work with emotional content. Bradley’s solo exhibition It’s Layered marks his first show in the Nordic countries. The exhibition comprises new three-dimensional coloured collage paintings on canvas.

William Bradley was born in York, United Kingdom and lives and works in Los Angeles. Bradley earned a MA Fine Art in Painting from Wimbledon College of Art, UAL in 2008 and BA in Art and Design form York St John University in 2007.
